Leading Scorer Earns Honors For The First Time This Season

SAN DIEGO- John Spoltore has been named the league's Player of the Week, the West Coast Hockey League club announced today.

In three games last week, Spoltore scored eight points (3g, 5a). He remains atop the league with 109 points and 80 assists. No other San Diego player has eclipsed the 100-point plateau since the 1996-97 season. Spoltore is currently riding a 13-game point scoring streak, a league high for the season. He has 32 points during that span. His 80 helpers are a new single-season franchise record. The league record is 90. The first year Gull also ranks second in the WCHL with a +28 plus/minus rating.

Spoltore has now racked up five 100-point seasons in his pro career. He notched a career high 119 points in 1999-00 while playing for the Louisiana Ice Gators of the East Coast Hockey League. Spoltore needs one more goal to reach 30, which will be his fourth career 30-goal season.

The Gulls conclude their road trip Wednesday night in Long Beach. San Diego returns home Friday to face the Ice Dogs for the final time in the regular season. The Blue and Orange play in Fresno Saturday before closing out the regular season Sunday at the Sports Arena versus Tacoma. All games can be heard live on 1130AM KSDO and at www.ksdo.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play.
