Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Shard Munroe collected three hits and drove in three runs and Jay Schuyler added two hits and two RBI to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 10-3 victory over the Lake County Captains on Friday night. A crowd of 7,647 was in attendance at Fifth Third Field as the Dragons snapped a five-game losing streak. The contest was the start to a six-game home stand for the Dragons.
The Dragons established season-highs for most runs in a game and largest margin of victory as they improved their home record to 2-1 on the year.
The Dragons got the scoring started in the second inning when Bren Spillane doubled high off the left-center field fence and scored on a single to right by Munroe. They scored again in the third when Jonathan Willems, who had been hit by a pitch to start the inning, eventually stole third base and crossed the plate when the catcher's throw to third bounced into left field to make it 2-0.
Lake County battled back to tie the game, scoring one in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it 2-2.
The Dragons responded with a five-run sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead. Munroe and Schuyler each had run-scoring singles in the inning. Miguel Hernandez had a two-run single, and another run came in on a wild pitch.
Lake County scored one run in the top of the seventh to make it 7-3, but the Dragons answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Schuyler had his second RBI single of the night in the inning, and Willems drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Dragons added another run in the eighth on Munroe's RBI ground out.
Dragons starting pitcher James Marinan worked five innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and one strikeout. Reliever Alexis Diaz (2-0) replaced Marinan to start the sixth and worked two innings, allowing one run on one hit with a walk and three strikeouts to earn the win. Jesse Stallings made his first appearance of the season and was impressive, working two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. He allowed one hit, an infield single, and a walk.
The Dragons collected 11 hits. Pabel Manzanero joined Munroe and Schuyler with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 with a double and a walk.
