Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that INF Yeltsin Encarnacion will join the Kernels from Elizabethton and INF Yunior Severino has been placed on the 7-day injured list with a left thumb fracture. Jeremy Zoll, Twins Director of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
The Twins signed Encarnacion as a non-drafted free agent on February 23, 2015. He split time last season between the GCL Twins and Elizabethton, and hit a combined .299 (50-167) with eight doubles, a triple, a HR and 22 RBI in 45 games.
Severino suffered his injury in the Kernels 7-3 loss to Kane County on Thursday night. In seven games for the Kernels this year, he was batting .269 (7-26) with an RBI.
Encarnacion is active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game against Burlington. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with four players on the injured list, and one player on the restricted list.
The Kernels continue a seven-game home stand tonight at 6:35 PM vs. Burlington with the gates opening at 5:30 PM. The current home stand continues through Sunday, April 14th.
