
Mulhern, Peavey Slug Captains to Win

Salisbury, MDâ Ryan Mulhern's two-run home run in the seventh inning Thursday led the Lake County Captains to a 12-5 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds at Perdue Stadium.
Mulhern drilled a two-run shot off the foul pole in left against Jim Tiller (2-3) with no outs in the seventh inning. The homer, Mulhern's fifth of the year, gave the Captains a 5-4 lead. Bill Peavey led off the inning with a single, preceding Mulhern's home run.
In the eighth, the Captains (12-15) loaded the bases with one out, and Peavey cranked a grand slam home run off reliever Chris Britton to make it 9-4. It was Peavey's eighth homer of the season, and was the Captains' second grand slam home run at Perdue Stadium this season.
Blake Allen (3-1) earned the win in relief despite giving up three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Captains starter Aaron Laffey pitched well, scattering five hits over five innings and allowing only one run.
The Captains and Shorebirds (11-16) will finish the series on Friday night at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330). The Captains will return to Eastlake Ballpark to begin a series against Lakewood on Saturday evening at 7:05.
