Cats Slam Legends, 9-7

Charleston's Clint Johnston belted a first inning Grand Slam building a lead that Lexington couldn't overcome. The Legends rallied throughout the evening but eventually fell 9-7 to the Alley Cats. The loss drops the to Legends 13-14 in the second half and to four games back of first place Kannapolis.

The Legends had plenty of chances to overtake the Cats early, twice stranding two runners in scoring position in the first three innings. The Legends stranded 11 runners overall in the game.

Bases on balls came back to haunt the Legends like so many times in the past. Lexington gave up 10 free passes throughout the game, three of which scored and one forced in a run. Lexington continues to lead the league in walks with 470, 55 more than the 2002 and 46 more than the 2001 team had all season long.

Ervin Alcantara singled in a run in the first inning, extending his hit streak to 16 straight games equaling a club record. Scott Robinson kept the Legends in the game with his 2nd four hit game in three days.

Josh Muecke was the lone bright spot on the pitching side, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings. Robert Stiehl (4-4) had his three game winning streak snapped after surrendering five runs in 1.2 innings. Barbourville resident, Kike Canizal (6-1) earned the win with four solid innings for the Alley Cats.

Game two of the brief two game series with Charleston is set for Friday night. Mitch Talbot will square off against Danny Core. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 with the Summit Mortgage Pre-game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:50 on the Legends Radio Network.
