FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Keys and Carolina Mudcats combined on three multi-run innings through the opening three stanzas, but the visitors held the upper hand in a 6-4 rain-shortened win on Sunday afternoon at Nymeo Field. Lasting five innings, the game featured 17 combined hits, while the Muddies registered multi-run innings in the second and third stanzas.

Joseph Odom hit a solo homer in the first off Mitch Horacek to put Carolina ahead 1-0, before tacking on three more runs one frame later. Following a walk to Braxton Davidson, a Jordan Edgerton double put two in scoring position, before a passed ball made it 2-0. Singles by Ryan Gebhardt and Keith Curcio completed the scoring.

In the third, the first three reached for the Muddies, while an RBI groundout by Sal Giardina and a Stephen Gaylor run-scoring base hit made it 6-0. Horacek (2-6) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on nine hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out three.

Mudcats starter Raymar Navarro worked two clean innings to start, before allowing three in the third. Josh Hart and Anthony Caronia opened the inning with consecutive singles, while an RBI double by Jay Gonzalez and a single by Steve Wilkerson cut the Mudcats lead in half. Frederick also scored one in the fourth on a sac-fly by Hart.

Conor Bierfeldt lined into a double play in the fifth against Michael O'Neal to conclude the fifth, as rain showers started falling right after the final out was made. O'Neal (1-0) picked up the win thanks to a scoreless inning of relief.
