Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC --- On a night at Five County Stadium where the Carolina Mudcats will officially celebrate their 20th Anniversary, the Carolina Mudcats and Cincinnati Reds are jointly announcing today the extension of their Double-A player development contract through the 2012 Southern League season.
In just two short years, the Mudcats have already become a trampoline of influence in Cincinnati's current National League Central-leading campaign in 2010. Former Mudcats Chris Heisey, Logan Ondrusek, Jordan Smith, Travis Wood are just a sampling of the major leaguers assisting the Reds in their playoff charge, with another wave of players such as Juan Francisco, Todd Frazier, Zack Cozart, Philippe Valiquette, Yonder Alonso, Devin Mesoraco and Dave Sappelt among others on the doorstep.
"The Reds are very pleased to be renewing their Player Development contract with the Mudcats. We are extremely happy with the way the relationship has developed over the past two summers," said Terry Reynolds, Senior Director of Player Development and Global Scouting for the Cincinnati Reds. "Steve Bryant, Joe Kremer, the Mudcat staff and all the fans in the Raleigh area have made our players and staff feel at home from the minute we arrived. We look forward to a long and successful relationship between the Reds and Mudcats."
"We're thrilled to continue our relationship with the Reds," said Mudcats owner Steve Bryant. "We are proud to be part of such an esteemed and classy organization, and are looking forward to a great future as a member of the Reds' family."
The 2010 season culminates a banner 20th year celebration of Carolina Mudcats baseball, which began in 1991. The Mudcats' history of affiliations started in 1991-1998 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, continued from 1999-2002 with the Colorado Rockies, then transitioned to the Florida Marlins from 2003-2008 to present-day with the Cincinnati Reds (2009-2012). --7521ea02-5971-4b71-9299-8f51274d9c3e
