RHP Steven Hensley Placed on DL; LHP Jimmy Gillheeney Joins Jaxx

JACKSON, TENN. (August 21, 2010) - The Seattle Mariners announced the following roster moves that affects the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx roster. The moves are made prior to today's double-header at 5:05 against the Jacksonville Suns.

SUMMARY:

. RHP Steven Hensley placed on the 7-Day DL

. LHP Jimmy Gillheeney activated from High-A High Desert

Hensley, 23, has been placed on the 7-Day disabled list with an illness. Steven was scheduled to make tonight's game two start for the Jaxx, but has been scratched. Hensley was 7-11, with a 4.62 ERA this season. A Southern League All-Star selection, Hensley has struggled to a 1-4 record and a 8.78 ERA since the All-Star break. Hensley was a 4th round pick in 2008 out of Elon University and resides in Ashville, NC

Gillheeney, 22, will join his third team thus far in the 2010 season. He will start game two of tonight's double-header against Jacksonville. Gillheeney joins the Jaxx from High-A High Desert where he made three starts and was 1-1, with a 5.06 ERA. Jimmy opened the season with Low-A Clinton of the Midwest League and went 8-8, with a 2.83 ERA in 21 starts. Gillheeney's overall minor league numbers in 2010 are 9-9, with a 3.10 ERA, 24 starts covering 133.2 innings. He has struck out 123 while walking just 51 batters this season. Gillheeney was a 8th round selection by the Mariners in the 2009 draft out of NC State. He is now the 8th member of the Mariners' 2009 draft class to reach Double-A.
