Mississippi Braves News Release
Kodak, TN- In the third game of a five game series, the Mississippi Braves scored three times in the 7th inning to pull away from Tennessee and take a two games to one series lead. Erik Cordier earned his tenth win of the season as he worked six innings and struck out five Smokies. Once again, Mauro Gomez had a huge game. Gomez went three for five with a home run and two RBI's and led the Braves at the plate.
For the third game in a row, the Mississippi Braves jumped out to an early lead. Mauro Gomez belted his fifteenth homer of the season. It was a solo shot that gave Mississippi a 1-0 lead. The Braves went on to score again in the 3rd inning when Tyler Pastornicky came in on an error by Russ Canzler.
Tennessee scored their first run of the game to cut the lead to one run. After a two out walk given up by Erik Cordier, Blake Lalli singled in Brandon Guyer and got within a run of the Braves. Mississippi answered an inning later thanks to Mauro Gomez's RBI double that brought in Antoan Richardson. Leading 3-1, Mississippi added onto their lead in the 6th. Orlando Mercado doubled to reach base and scored on an Erik Cordier single to give Mississippi a 4-1 lead.
The lead wouldn't last long as the Smokies found a way to even the score in the bottom of the 6th. Brett Jackson singled and Brandon Guyer doubled to put runners at second and third with just one out. Blake Lalli then came up and hit a three-run home run out of the park to tie the game 4-4. Erik Cordier then struck out the next batter and induced a ground out to end the inning.
In the 7th, Mississippi answered against the Tennessee bullpen. Eric Duncan singled to lead off the inning, which was followed by a single from Mauro Gomez. Michael Daniel walked and Dan Nelson delivered a sac-fly RBI to give Mississippi a 5-4 lead. With two outs, Yasser Gomez singled to center to score two runs and Mississippi went ahead for good, 7-4. Juan Abreu closed out the 9th with a fly out and a double-play to give Mississippi the victory.
Tomorrow is the fourth game of the series and will start at 5:15 central time. The Braves will send out RHP J.J. Hoover (0-0; 0.00), who'll be making his AA debut. Tennessee will go with RHP Chris Archer (7-1; 1.26).
