ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats and Mobile BayBears locked in a pitcher's duel on Saturday night as Five County Stadium as Josh Collmenter and Scott Carroll locked horns and both pitched into the seventh inning however, it would Mobile taking advantage of their chances as they defeated the Mudcats 2-1.

Carolina (24-31) had great chances to score in the first two innings but came up empty. In the games opening stanza, Kris Negron extended his hitting streak to 19 games as he doubled off the left field wall, but was stranded at second. Again in the second inning the Mudcats had their best chance of the night as Denis Phipps doubled to led off the frame and was followed by a Chris Denove single to put runners at the corners with no outs. That's when Collmenter went to work and got the next three hitters in order to keep the game scoreless after two.

With the game was scoreless into the top of the fifth inning and it looked as though Carroll would get out of the inning with no harm done as a Jake Elmore bounced into a double play to clear the bases, but the BayBears got a double from Ollie Linton who was then doubled home by the pitcher, Collmenter for his third RBI of the season and give Mobile (31-23) a 1-0 lead.

Carolina continued to trail by a single run until they finally broke through against Collmenter. Denove led off the inning with a double to the left centerfield gap, he was advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Jose Castro groundout to push across the tying run.

Mobile wasted no time getting back on top as Carolina went to the pen for Ruben Medina. Even Frey led off the inning with a single to left and stole second and third to put himself in position to break the tie. After a Medina strikeout, Bryan Byrne pushed the BayBears back on top with a single to left. Medina pitched out of the jam leaving two on base and the Mudcats trailed 2-1.

Carolina put the tying run on base in the bottom of the eighth against Bryan Woodall who was pitching in relief, but Felix Perez grounded into a double play and killed the Mudcat rally.

Still down by a run in the ninth, Carolina mounted a rally with one out. The Mudcats had runners at first and second with one out thanks to a single from Denis Phipps and a walk to Chris Denove. However, Jake Kahaulelio hit into a double play to end the threat and the game as Mobile picked up the 2-1 win.

The series wraps up tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 when Jordan Hotchkiss makes his Double-A debut for Carolina while Tom Layne goes for Mobile (11-5, 3.78).
