NEWS & NOTES:

- About Last Night - Salem roared out to an 8-0 lead and defeated Carolina 10-4. Xander Bogaerts and Brandon Jacobs launched a pair of 2-run jacks for the Sox. Jesus Aguilar and Anthony Gallas cracked homers for the Mudcats. Starter Mike Rayl was hit for six runs in only two innings.

- The Big G - Outfielder Anthony Gallas extended his hitting streak to six with a pair of hits Friday night. The Cleveland native cracked his third home run during his streak, and his sixth of the year. Gallas boasts a .500 average in those six games (10x20) with 6 RBI.

- The Hammer - Jeremie Tice was selected to participate in this year's Home Run Derby at the All-Star event in Winston-Salem, N.C. Tice enters today tied with Potomac's Justin Bloxom for the league lead in homers with 12. The Derby will be at 6 p.m. on June 19 before the All-Star game.

- New Bern All-Star - Former ECU Pirate Shawn Armstrong continued his dominating first half by tossing a scoreless ninth on June 13. Through 32 innings in relief, Armstrong has allowed only four runs. He is second on the team with 40 strikeouts. His .170 batting average against ranks second among league relievers.
