Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Lynchburg Hillcats shut down the Frederick Keys, limiting them to just one run on four hits as the Keys fell 6-1 at Harry Grove Stadium in front of 8,055 fans.
The Keys wore special purple jerseys as a benefit to The Lupus Foundation, but it didn't change their fortune as the losing outcome resulted in their fifth straight loss. The Keys could not solve starting pitcher Cody Martin, who was masterful for Lynchburg, allowing just one hit - a homerun - in 5 2/3 innings of work while striking out eight batters.
On 'Purple-Out Weekend' the Keys have lost all three games this series and will try and avoid the four-game sweep for tomorrow's Heartly House Purple Hat auction game which will benefit victims of domestic violence.
Lynchburg, after scoring four runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead, coasted from there, moving to 38-31 on the year.
After Aaron Baker hit a towering shot over the right-field fence to tie the game at one in the second inning, Martin went into shutdown mode, not allowing another hit the rest of his time in the game.
Meanwhile, Lynchburg took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI double from Tommy La Stella and then opened things up with their four-run sixth inning.
Adam Milligan started the big inning with a two-run homerun that just cleared the left-field wall, giving the Hillcats a 4-1 lead. Then after a walk and hit batter, Emerson Landoni hit a two-RBI triple to really open the game up and provide a comfortable 6-1 advantage.
With Martin shutting down the Keys and the bullpen combination of Ryne Harper, Matt Chaffee, and Chasen Shreve not allowing a run, the Keys were unable to come back from there.
Tyler Wilson (2-3, 4.50 ERA) was charged with the loss for Frederick. Tim Berry pitched 3 1/3 innings without an earned run charged to him. Berry has not allowed an earned run so far in his time with Frederick.
RHP Trent Howard (1-3, 5.65 ERA) is on the mound for the Keys in tomorrow night's Heartly House Purple Hat Auction, where the Keys will wear purple hats and then have them auctioned off to benefit the Heartly House, which serves to help victims of domestic abuse.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM with live coverage starting at 5:40 PM on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
