MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, threw out two players at home plate in the ninth Saturday, securing a 2-1 win over the Potomac Nationals in front of 3,465 at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

Leading 2-1 in the ninth the Pelicans gave up a leadoff single to JP Ramirez. Kevin Keyes then reached on an error, advancing Ramirez to third base. That's when things got interesting. Zach Walters flied out to leftfield, setting up a sac fly attempt, but Jared Hoying gunned down Ramirez at the dish for a double play. With two out Michael Taylor singled to second base, Keyes advanced to third and then tried to score, thrown out by first baseman Yefry Castillo. The Pelicans won 2-1.

The Pelicans offense took a while to get going, but finally came up big in the sixth inning. Cafe Martinez extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a 2-4 day, singling to lead off the sixth with his second knock. Two batters later Brett Nicholas collected his team best 18th double to tie the game at 1-1.

Nicholas came through again in the eighth inning with his 19th double, setting the table for Christian Villanueva, who smacked another double for his 30th RBI and a 2-1 lead.

On the mound the Pelicans got five one run innings from Wilmer Font. He struck out six and walked only the first batter of the game. Trevor Holder went seven and two thirds for Potomac, allowing two runs on seven hits.

Myrtle Beach and Potomac finish the first half with a 6:05 start on Sunday. Randol Rojas starts against Adam Olbrycowski. For more information or to purchase tickets call 843-918-6000 or visit MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
