WILMINGTON, DE (JUNE 16, 2012) - The Winston-Salem Dash have won the first half championship in the Carolina League's Southern Division thanks to a 9-5 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks Saturday night at Frawley Stadium.

The Dash (43-25-1) have earned a spot in the Carolina League's playoffs, which begin September 5. This is Winston-Salem's 25th playoff appearance since joining the Carolina League for its debut season in 1945. Since becoming the Dash prior to the 2009 season, Winston-Salem has played in the postseason in three of its four seasons.

Winston-Salem has now won 13 first half titles in the Carolina League. The Dash boast the league's best record and the third-best mark in all of High-A baseball. Winston joins Northern Division champion Lynchburg in the CL playoffs.

The Dash will host Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 of the best-of-three Carolina League Southern Division Series. Those two games will take place at BB&T Ballpark September 6 and 7. If the Dash were to advance, they would play for their Carolina League-leading 12th championship September 8-13.

A full recap of Saturday's game will be sent out shortly. For continuing coverage, along with audio and video from the celebration, be sure to check out wsdash.com or the "Dash Board" blog at dashboard.mlblogs.com.
