Mudcats and Cannon Ballers Split Wednesday Doubleheader

ZEBULON - After falling 3-1 to the Cannon Ballers in game one, the Mudcats bounced back with a 3-2 victory in game two while finishing with a split in Wednesday's doubleheader versus Kannapolis at Five County Stadium. Outfielder Andre Nnebe drove in all three of Carolina's game two runs and closer Cam Robinson earned his league leading 11th save of the season.

Kannapolis (26-54) led from start to finish in game one, with first baseman Harvin Mendoza driving in two of their three runs with a two-run single in the third. The Mudcats (47-33) were held to just one run and fell 3-1 in the series opening game before coming back to even the six game series with a 3-2 victory in game two.

Carolina's Brendan Murphy started the first game and took the loss despite allowing just three runs on five hits over five innings pitched. Murphy (5-5, 5.37) also struck out six and walked two in the loss.

Drew Dalquist started for Kannapolis and fell an inning shy of getting the win after holding the Mudcats to one run and three hits over four and 2/3 innings. Dalquist totaled a career high eight strikeouts and reached a career high 90 pitches in his start. Yoelvin Silven (2-4, 7.06) later earned the win after holding Carolina scoreless over two and 1/3 innings.

Carolina's Jhoan Cruz started the second game by giving up three straight hits and a run in the first. Cruz (6-5, 5.94), however, ended up allowing just the one first inning run while limiting the early damage. In all, Cruz scattered seven hits and allowed two runs (one earned) over five full innings pitched. He also struck out four and won his second straight game.

Robinson (S, 11) pitched around a couple of hits in the seventh and left runners at second and third while earning his league leading 11th save of the season in game two. He also finished the second game with a strikeout and totaled two punchouts overall over two scoreless while earning the two inning save.

Martin Carrasco started and took the loss for Kannapolis after allowing three Carolina runs on four hits over four innings. Carrasco (1-4, 4.96) also walked two and struck out five in the loss.

Nnebe led the way on offense after coming through with a game-tying, two-run triple in the second and a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the fourth. Nnebe went 1-for-2 with three RBI in the victory. His triple was his first of the season.

Both Gabe Holt and Ernesto Martinez had triples in game one, giving Carolina three triples overall between both games. Holt went 2-for-3 in the first game and scored once to lift his league leading runs scored total to 63 for the season. Martinez went 1-for-3 in both games while running his hitting streak to seven straight.
