BUGS FIGHT OFF TULSA â The Mudbugs ended their four-day roadtrip on Tuesday night, with a 4-3 win over the Tulsa Oilers at the Tulsa Convention Center. After a scoreless first period, David Oliver took a Trevor Buchanan pass and fired a shot past Oiler goaltender Rod Branch for his fourth goal of the year at 5:29 of the second period. Chad Spurr then scored eighteen seconds later on his own rebound to increase the lead to two. Twice, the Mudbugs built two-goal leads with Ryan Manitowich and Oliver lighting the lamp again, but the Oilers battled back to cut the deficit to one each time. Ken Carroll stood tall down the stretch and the Mudbugs held on with solid defensive work in the third period.
THIRD PERIOD BURIES AMARILLO â On Friday night, the Mudbugs defeated the Amarillo Gorillas 5-2 at the CenturyTel Center, in the lone meeting of the year between the two teams. Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll made his 18th start of the season, but was beaten two minutes into the game on a redirection by Amarillo's John Dean. However, Bugs rookie Craig Soke continued his strong play with a wrist shot from the left circle for his fifth goal of the season just minutes later. In the second period, Jason Campbell fired a shot from the blue line that was tipped past Gorillas goaltender Shawn Degagne to give the Mudbugs their first lead of the night. Although, Amarillo would respond with a power play goal from Scott Wray in the second, the Mudbugs took control of the game with three third period goals. Chad Spurr scored twice and Dan Wildfong added a power play tally to seal the 5-2 victory.
POWERFUL VERSUS SAN ANGELO â Saturday, the Mudbugs scored three times on the power play and got three-point efforts from Trevor Buchanan and Chris Brassard as they defeated the San Angelo Saints 4-1 at the CenturyTel Center. The win was the Mudbugs' third in a row and improved their record to 12-6-2 this season. Jason Campbell continued his impressive play with his seventh goal of the season as he deflected a Chris Brassard shot from the blue line to give the Mudbugs an early lead. In the second period, Brassard fired another shot from the right point which found its way through traffic and went past Saints goaltender Scott Reid. San Angelo's Derek Booth got a power play goal of his own, but Bossier-Shreveport would answer with their third power play strike when Trevor Buchanan tipped a Jim Sprott shot for his fourth goal of the season at 10:11 of the third period. Craig Soke then added an empty-net goal to seal a 4-1 win for the Mudbugs. Ken Carroll made 20 saves in his 20th appearance of the year to improve to 12-6-2.
