Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

MEMPHIS FLATTENED ON THURSDAY – On Thursday night, the Mudbugs traveled to Memphis for their third meeting of the year against the Memphis RiverKings and came away with a 3-0 shutout win over the defending President's Cup Champions. David Haun made his first start in goal for the Mudbugs but was forced to leave the game at 3:05 of the first period due to injury. Jason Basile opened the scoring in the first period on a delayed penalty call at 4:50 of the frame with a slap shot from the blue line that was redirected past RiverKings goaltender Shawn Conschafter. Chad Spurr then increased the Mudbugs' lead in the second period with his fourth goal of the season with assists from Craig Soke and Chris Brassard. In the third period, rookie forward Colin Kendall scored his second goal in as many games as a diving poke check from Memphis all-star Don Parsons went into the RiverKings' net. Ken Carroll made 17 saves in the relief effort to earn his eighth win of the season. The Mudbugs also handed the RiverKings their first loss on home ice in eight games at the DeSoto Civic Center.

AUSTIN PREVAILS IN OVERTIME – Former Mudbug Jonathan Forest made 36 saves and Daryl McArthur scored the game-winner in overtime as the Austin Ice Bats defeated the Mudbugs, 3-2 on Friday at the CenturyTel Center. The loss ended the Mudbugs' six-game winning streak and dropped their record to 8-3-2. In the second period, Shawn Legault scored his first goal of the season on his own rebound at 11:43 to open the scoring. Gerald Tallaire then made it 2-0 at 15:11 of the second period as he re-directed a loose puck past Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll. Mudbugs rookie Craig Soke then scored a big goal to get the Bugs on the board with a wrist shot from the right circle to cut the lead in half going into the third period. In the third, Chad Spurr continued his outstanding play with his fifth goal of the year on assists from linemates Soke and Chris Brassard. After both teams battled down to the final horn and into overtime, Austin defenseman Darryl McArthur beat Ken Carroll with a low wrist shot for the game-winner with just 1:01 left in the extra session.

BUGS FALL JUST SHORT VS. MEMPHIS – In the second game of the four-game homestand, the Mudbugs suffered a 3-2 loss to the Memphis RiverKings on Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. In the first period, Brad Mueller took a Juraj Durco pass and wristed the puck past Ken Carroll to open the scoring. Bossier-Shreveport then countered with a late power play goal as Dan Wildfong broke in alone against RiverKings netminder Jean-Francois Racine and scored his second goal of the season at 16:44. In the second period, Memphis all-star Don Parsons scored on a solid individual effort past the Mudbugs defense just 23 seconds into the middle frame. Brad Mueller then struck for his second goal of the game as he took a clearing attempt by Racine at center ice and scored on a breakaway against Ken Carroll. With a Memphis penalty to defenseman David Turon carrying over to the third period, Jason Campbell scored just 53 seconds into the frame as Chris Brassard's blue line slap shot tipped off of Racine's glove and sat in the crease. Campbell nudged it in for his fourth goal of the season. Despite a wealth of shots late in the game and heavy traffic in front, Racine shut down the Mudbugs and the RiverKings held on for a 3-2 win.
