Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo.- Cam Abbott had four goals and Chris Brassard added a hat-trick as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs beat the Colorado Eagles 9-5 Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. The game marked the most goals scored against the Eagles at home in team history, no other team had scored more than six before Saturday's game. The Eagles record fell to 36-12-0 although they remain in first place in the Central Hockey League with 72 points. Four different Eagles players scored goals and Brad Williamson had a goal and two assists in just their fourth home loss of the season. The Eagles will stay home for one more home game Wednesday night against the Tulsa Oilers in a televised game on Altitude Sports & Entertainment.

The Mudbugs opened up the scoring at the 8:17 mark of the first period when Chris Brassard picked up a loose puck and ripped a slapshot past Eagles goaltender Tim Boron. Colorado continued to battle and evened the score with less than two minutes to play in the period. Ed McGrane fed a streaking Scott Polaski who made a nice drive to the net and lifted the puck over the shoulder of Mudbugs goaltender John DeCaro. Colorado took a 2-1 lead with 44 seconds remaining in the period when Ed McGrane jammed in a rebound from a scrum in front of the net. He was assisted by Craig Strain and Seth Leonard and the Eagles took the one-goal lead into the first intermission.

Cam Abbott scored the first of his two second period goals on the power play at the 8:22 mark to tie the game at two. Chris Brassard scored his second goal of the game at the 11:14 mark to give the Mudbugs a 3-2 lead. Bossier scored their third straight goal of the second period on Cam Abbott's second of the period at the 16:21 mark, it was his second power play goal of the game. The Eagles answered before time ran out in the second when Brad Williamson scored from behind the goalline. He bounced the puck off the back of the goaltender for his ninth goal of the season. After two periods, the Mudbugs were up 4-3 and shots were even at 23.

Ryan Tobler tied the game just 1:51 into the third period when the puck got through the pads of DeCaro and Tobler dove to redirect the puck into the net. He was assisted by Brad Williamson and Aaron Schneekloth, but that would be as close as the Eagles would get. The Mudbugs rattled off four straight goals starting at Joe Ori's at the 3:53 mark. At the 4:37 mark, Cam Abbott completed his hat-trick and just three minutes later Chris Brassard completed his hat-trick. Dan Wildfong completed the four-goal outburst at the 8:54 mark of the period. Eagles goaltender Tim Boron was subsequently pulled from the game after the Mudbugs eighth goal. Chris Hartsburg made it an 8-5 game on his 25th goal of the season, however the Mudbugs weren't finished as Cam Abbott topped the game with a wrap-around goal, his fourth of the game. Final Score: Mudbugs 9 - Eagles 5.
