LOVELAND, CO -- Cam Abbott and Chris Brassard both scored hat tricks as the Mudbugs routed the Colorado Eagles 9-5 on Saturday night.
The Mudbugs jumped to an early lead on a rocket of a slapshot by Chris Brassard that beat Colorado goalie Tim Boron at 8:17. The Eagles answered with two quick goals toward the end of the period. Scott Polaski scored at 18:07 on a breakaway then Ed McGrane was able to poke a rebound by John DeCaro roughly one minute later.
The Bugs rallied in the second period on two power play goals by Cam Abbott. Chris Brassard scored on a rebound to add to the lead. Brad Williamson fired a puck by John DeCaro for the Eagles' only goal of the second period, narrowing the Mudbugs lead to one.
Ryan Tobler evened the game at four, but the Bugs answered with their highest offensive display of the season. Cam Abbott scored twice to complete the hat trick, once shorthanded. Chris Brassard scored on a wrister to round out the trifecta while Joe Ori and Dan Wildfong also tallied to finish the route.
