Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - In a game where neither team took the lead for very long, it took a key third period goal to win it for the visiting team. The Oklahoma City Blazers defeated the Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team 4-3 tonight at the Broomfield Event Center. Goaltender Trevor Cunning made 37 saves and center Dominic Noel netted a goal and an assist to lead the Rage.
Rocky Mountain's Adam Loncan made the play for the first goal of the game when he skated the puck behind the net firing a shot at the left pad of Blazers goaltender Sean Connors. Clay Plume picked up the short rebound and at 11:20, quickly stuffed the puck past the left skate of Connors.
Not until 19:05 of the first period did Oklahoma City answer back. Blazers center Marty Standish sent a slap shot in net after grazing two Rage defenders on a five-on-three opportunity.
Both teams added a goal early in the second period. Oklahoma City took their first lead of the game when Garrett Prosofsky added a goal at 50 seconds. Rocky Mountain's Noel tied the game at 5:35 with a slap shot from the right circle unassisted.
Oklahoma City regained the lead under two minutes later with Standish's second goal of the game on the powerplay. Rocky Mountain's Brett DeCecco tied the game with a powerplay goal from the right circle much like Standish's goal in the first period. It grazed an Oaklahoma City defender out front before hitting the back of the net. John DiPace and Jordan Little were credited with assists on the play.
With a 3-3 tie going into the third period. Fans saw end to end action and equal, but few shots on goal. A handful of shots that peppered Rage goalie Trevor Cunning forced him out of net. Oklahoma City's Jaroslav Cesky had a split second opportunity, made a spin move and took it. Cecky scored what would be the game winning goal at 15:35.
The Rage falls to 11-31-5 (27 points) for fourth place in the northwest division and the Blazers improve to 25-15-7 (55 points) for second place in the northwest division.
The Rage returns to action Feb. 23-24 for a two game road trip against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and the Memphis RiverKings, respectively. Fans can listen online at www.RockyMountainRage.com or over the radio live on AM Z560.
