Hounds Hold on For Second Straight against the Thunder

The Youngstown SteelHounds furthered themselves from the rest of the teams that are looking for a Northern Conference Playoff spot with a 3-1 victory over the Wichita Thunder on Saturday night at the Chevrolet Centre.

Jeff Christian scored a his 30th goal of the season, this on the power play with just 23 seconds to go in the first period to make it 1-0 Hounds after one period. The second period saw both teams score and then brawl as Shaun Landolt made it 2-0 Y-Town just 18 seconds into the period for his 12th of the season. Wichita responded with a goal by Ryan Lauzon to make it 2-1 SteelHounds after two periods.

The end of the period saw a wild brawl break out that led to Chris Richards and Matt Coughlin getting ejected for their squads.

The third period was nip and tuck until Chris Shaffer scored with under three minutes to play to seal the deal for the Hounds. The win moves the Hounds up to 23-16-8 (54pts) and puts them eight points up on the Thunder who are desperately looking to hold onto the last playoff spot at 20-21-6 (46pts). These two teams will play one more time at the Chevy Centre before finishing their series on Wednesday in Wichita.
