Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs and Odessa Jackalopes would skate in the second of a two-game series at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley Saturday night. In front of a sold-out 4,845 crowd and celebrating NASCAR and tomorrow's Daytona 500, the Sundogs would convert on 4-of-5 power plays en route to a 6-2 victory. With the win the Sundogs remain one-point ahead of Rio Grande Valley for the sixth playoff spot and just one point back of Austin for the fifth playoff spot.

Opposite last night's tilt in which the Sundogs scored first the Odessa Jackalopes would score the game's first goal as Pascal Bedard would convert on his club's first power play opportunity. Bedard would find the back of the net just 4:19 into the contest unassisted. A little over five minutes later Karl Sellan would find the back of the net for the Sundogs from behind the net, deflecting the shot off Odessa netminder Derek Dolson. Dmitri Leonov and Cory Stillman would assist on the equalizer. With 6:16 remaining in the opening period David Svagrovsky would collect Arizona's first power play goal of the night from Stillman and Brent Kelly giving his club a 2-1 lead. With 1:27 to play in the first Odessa would tie the game at 2-2 as Emery Olauson would put the puck past Sundogs netminder Kris Mayotte on passes from Josh Legge and Brian Swiniarski.

The Sundogs would regain the lead 2:01 into the middle frame as Cory Stillman would collect his first goal and third point of the night. Dan Laperriere and Chris Greene would notch helpers on the power play goal. Three minutes later Sellan would grab his second goal of the night skating in on a 2-on-1 odd man rush. Sellan would use his partner as a decoy to open the near side of the net squeezing the puck past Dolson to go up 4-2. Laperriere and Stillman would assist on the play collecting their second and fourth points of the night. Sellan and Stillman would continue to dominate the score sheet as Sellan would take a pass from Ryan Steeves and feed Stillman at the top of the hash marks. Stillman would rocket the puck over Dolson's shoulder for Arizona's third power play goal on four chances.

Already holding a three-goal lead the Sundogs would push the score to 6-2 on their fourth power play goal of the night. Cedric Bernier would tip a slap shot from the point over the shoulder of Dolson for his second point of the night. Chris Bartolone and Ryan Steeves would be credited with assists on the play.

Odessa would outshoot Arizona 33-25 in the contest with Kris Mayotte getting his third-straight victory stopping 23 of the 25 shots. Derek Dolson appeared in net for Odessa deflecting 27 shots in the loss. Arizona would convert on 80 percent of the power play chances going 4-for-5 while the Jackalopes would go just 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

The Sundogs skate again on Tuesday in a crucial game when Southern Conference foe the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees visit Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
