Mud Hens Win in Walk-Off Fashion over Indians
August 29, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
In Larry Parrish's farewell game at Fifth Third Field, the Hens honored the most winning manager in franchise history by winning in a special way. After going down 2-0, the Hens stormed back to tie the game twice, and then won it in walk-off fashion 4-3 in the ninth inning.
The Indians wasted no time in taking a lead over Toledo. Alen Hanson singled to lead off the game, and then immediately stole second base. Keon Broxton then singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. A batter later, Corey Hart ripped a double to left field to score both runners and put Indianapolis up 2-0.
After the rocky first inning, Thad Weber settled in nicely on the mound for the Hens. He followed the first with five shutout innings to keep the game close. In the bottom half of the sixth inning, the offense finally backed up his strong pitching performance. After back-to-back singles from Manny Pina and Jefry Marte, Dean Green grounded into a double play, but Bryan Holaday picked the team up with a double to get the Hens on the board. They weren't done though, as Corey Jones would single to tie the game 2-2.
Weber went back to work in the seventh inning, and got the first out quickly. In a 2-2 count, Willy Garcia followed with a triple to center field. Having a chance to throw Garcia out at third, Alexi Casilla rifled the ball over to the bag. However, the ball wasn't handled cleanly and the throwing error allowed Garcia to get a little league home run, giving the Indians a 3-2 lead. Overall, Weber pitched a great game for the Hens, allowing only two earned runs in eight innings while striking out five.
The Mud Hens stormed back in the eighth inning, getting a run on a fielder's choice that scored Green to tie the game at three. Lefty Joe Mantiply came on in the ninth to keep the game tied, and struck out two in his scoreless inning of work. In the bottom of the ninth, Steven Moya led off with a double to left field. Pina followed by ripping the first pitch he saw from Frank Hermann to left field to score Moya, giving Toledo a 4-3 walk-off victory.
Toledo is back in action at Fifth Third Field on Sunday at 6 p.m. against the Indianapolis Indians. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
