Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens lost the series finale at Fifth Third Field to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 5-3.
Scoring seemed be happening nearly every inning for one team or another. For the Mud Hens, Jason Krizan was the big producer for the lineup, driving in Dixon Machado on two different occasions, accounting for two of the teams three runs on the day.
Toledo starter Jacob Turner was in trouble early, as Dean Anna hit a triple on the first pitch of the game. He was driven in by a groundout by Collin Cowgill. Turner settled in after this to shut the opposition down for the next two innings.
The IronPigs got to Turner again in the fourth after am error by Harold Castro. Another run scored in the inning when Logan Moore hit sacrifice bunt to score Dylan Cozens. The two runs that crossed the plate this inning without a ball leaving the infield.
The Mud Hens did some scoring of their own in the fourth inning, facing Jacob Waguespack. Machado opened the inning with a single, then found his way to third after a Christin Stewart double. It was Krizan who got the run across the board with a single to right field. Mikie Mahtook hit into a fielder's choice that scored Stewart.
It did not take long for Lehigh Valley to answer back, as Cowgill homered in the fifth inning. Another run scored off of reliever Zac Reininger as a ball squirted away following a strikeout of Danny Espinosa in the sixth inning.
Krizan came through once more in the bottom half of the sixth, driving in Machado on a groundout to second. This put the Mud Hens down by two runs. Hunter Cervenka took over in eighth inning to hold the score where it was.
Toledo entered the bottom of the ninth trailing by two runs. The IronPigs brought in Pedro Beato to shut the door. Mike Gerber was the first to see him, which ended in a flyout. Jarrod Saltalamacchia struck out, leaving things up to Castro with two outs. A flyout from his bat ended the game.
