Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of their three-game series to the Indianapolis Indians by a score of 6-4 in 11 innings from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte on Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Knights posted an impressive 5-2 record on the homestand. Sunday's loss snapped Charlotte's season-high five-game winning streak.
The Knights, who won three games on walk-offs during the homestand, almost had another walk-off win on Sunday. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Knights trailed the Indians by a score of 4-2. Charlotte then battled and scored two runs to tie the game, which sent the team into extra innings. In the top of the 11th inning, RHP Rob Scahill (2-3, 4.30) allowed two runs to the Indians, which gave them a 6-4 lead at that point. The Knights couldn't come back from the two-run deficit in the bottom of the 11th inning and Scahill was charged with the loss.
Offensively for the Knights, third baseman Patrick Leonard and shortstop José RondÃÅn led the way with two hits apiece. Leonard drove in two of the team's four runs and had one of the club's two doubles on the day. Outfielder Ryan LaMarre, who was added to the active roster before the game, went 1-for-4 with a single in his debut with the Knights.
LHP Jordan Guerrero started the game for the Knights and allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits over five innings. In relief of Guerrero, the next four relievers combined to hold the Indians scoreless over five innings. RHP Tyler Danish (1.1 IP), LHP Aaron Bummer (0.1 IP), RHP Carson Fulmer (1.1 IP), and RHP Ian Hamilton (2.0 IP) were sharp in their appearances out of the "pen.
The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before heading to Moosic, PA to open a three-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees) on Tuesday. Pre-game radio coverage of Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
