Louisville Bats News Release
BATS WIN FIVE STRAIGHT: The Louisville Bats won their fifth straight game on Saturday, tying a season-long winning streak. Right-hander Jose Lopez went 5.2 innings, striking out 10 as the Bats won 9-4 to take the first 3 games of the series against Syracuse. Before this current win streak, LOU last won 5 straight from May 31 to June 5 this season, winning vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (5/31), vs. Gwinnett (6/1-6/3) and at Pawtucket (6/5). With a win tonight, LOU would have its longest winning streak of the season.
AGAINST SYRACUSE: The Bats earned their 100th win all-time against Syracuse with Saturday's 9-5 win. Louisville has won the first 3 games of the series, going for its first four-game sweep of the season. The Bats have never swept a four-game series at Syracuse, but have swept four 4-game series all-time vs. Syracuse, most recently in 2011. The Bats have swept the Chiefs once at Syracuse, winning all 3 games in their 2015 series.
BATS GO FOR THE SWEEP: The Bats have swept one series this season, winning all 3 games vs. Gwinnett from June 1-3. With a victory today, Louisville would have its first four-game sweep since June 14-16, 2013 at Norfolk, sweeping a doubleheader after the original series opener was postponed due to rain.
WINNING BY A SECOND: Louisville scored 5 runs in the second inning last night, led by a Steve Selsky RBI double and Chadwick Tromp two-run home run. The second inning has been the Bats' most successful inning this season in terms of run differential, outscoring their opponents 49-41 in the second innings of games.
WHEN YOU COME TO A FORK IN THE ROAD, TAKE IT: The Bats have won 5 straight road games and have won 8 of their last 10 road games since June 30. Before the active streak, LOU last won 5+ consecutive road games since winning 9 straight road games in 2016, at Columbus (4/13 DH), Norfolk (4/24-4/26), Durham (4/27-4/29) and Indianapolis (5/6).
400 RUNS: Louisville scored its 400th run of the season in the top of the fifth last night, when D.J. Peterson hit an RBI single into center field to score Blake Trahan and give the Bats a 6-3 lead. Louisville is currently 8th in the league with 403 runs, and Syracuse ranks 10th with 391 runs.
STREAK OF THE WEEK: The Bats have won 5 consecutive games after losing 5 straight after the All-Star break. It's the first time LOU's had back-to-back win and loss streaks of 5+ games since August 2-19, 2013, winning 5 straight from August 2-6, and losing 12 straight from August 7-19.
JOSE 10PEZ: Right-hander Jose Lopez got the win yesterday, the Bats' fourth win by a starting pitcher in their last 5 games, with reliever Jesus Reyes nabbing the lone relief win during the win streak on July 19. Lopez struck out 10 Syracuse Chiefs, his first double digit strikeout game since he whiffed 11 batters on July 11, 2017 vs. Chattanooga while pitching for Class AA Pensacola.
