Clippers Finish Home Stand on a High Note

July 22, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers took down the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the finale of their four-game series today at Huntington Park to even things at two games apiece.

Nellie Rodriguez powered the way to victory with a mammoth three-run blast over the wall in right-center, and the Clippers staff took over from there to win it, 5-0.

Brandon Barnes started the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first, but Rodriguez's bomb gave the Clippers the momentum they needed to finish their seven-game home stand strong.

Adam Plutko made the start for the Clippers and tossed four fantastic shutout innings. He allowed just one hit, didn't walk a batter and struck out five.

He handed the ball to Cleveland Indians' star Andrew Miller, down on a rehab assignment, in the fifth. Miller struck out the first man he faced and then gave up a hit, but left him stranded after retiring the next two he faced.

Myles Jaye and George Kontos kept it at 4-0 until the eight, when Yu Chang blasted solo homer over the right field wall to make it 5-0.

Alexi Ogando sealed the deal for the Clippers in the ninth.

The Clippers will have tomorrow off before traveling to Pawtucket on Tuesday. First pitch with the Paw Sox is set for 7:05 p.m.
