Clippers' Offense Comes Alive Late in Walk-Off Victory

July 22, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers walked off the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders tonight at Huntington Park, winning game three of their series, 5-3.

Eric Haase came through with two outs in the tenth, stroking his team-leading 14th homerun of the season to give the Clippers the win.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took an early lead against the Clippers and starter Shao-Ching Chiang in the second inning after Rey Navarro plated one with a single.

The Clippers trailed, 1-0, until the fourth when Greg Allen led off with a double and stole third. RailRiders' starter Justus Sheffield struck out the next two batters before walking Eric Haase. With two out, Adam Rosales stroked an RBI double to left-center, and Haase scored the go-ahead run when the throw in escaped shortstop Abiatal Avalino.

The 2-1 lead didn't last long, as Navarro crushed a two-run homerun of Chiang in the fifth inning to reclaim a 3-2 lead. That looked like the game's winning hit until the Clippers fought back in the ninth.

The Clippers rallied, loading the bases before Eric Stamets walked to tie the game at 3-3.

They kept that momentum rolling in the tenth when Josh Martin shut down the RailRiders' bats to give the Clippers a chance to walk-off.

They took advantage of his efforts in the tenth with Hasse's walkoff bomb.

The teams will face off in the series finale tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. at Huntington Park.
