
Moyers Pitches Nuts to 6-1 Win

MODESTO, CA. - Steven Moyers turned in a gem to propel the Modesto Nuts to a 6-1 win over the Stockton Ports on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.
Moyers (W, 1-1), in his first start at home for the Nuts (46-57; 16-17), recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts over eight sparkling innings of work. The only run Moyers surrendered came on a bloop two-out double in the third inning.
The Nuts' offense got to work early when Jake Scheiner singled home two runs in the first inning against Ports (49-52; 16-17) starter Leudeny Pineda (L, 0-1). Scheiner finished with two hits in the game. In the second, Joseph Rosa drove in the first of his two RBI with a double. David Shaeffer added a sac fly before he launched a solo home run in the fourth.
Pineda tossed four innings and was charged with five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
