
66ers Lose Tight Affair to Quakes

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino dropped their series opener 4-3 to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Sixers to 4-16 against the Quakes in 2019 with the last 11 decisions all going Rancho Cucamonga's way.
The 66ers took a 2-0 lead in the first against Quakes lefty John Rooney (1-1) when Leonardo Rivas singled and later scored on Jordan Zimmerman's RBI single. Devin Davis lined a single to right field two batters scoring Zimmerman. The Quakes got one run back against Cristopher Molina (0-2) in the first and tied the game in the when Deacon Liput tripled to open the frame then came home on a throwing error later in the frame. The tie was broken with two outs in the fifth when Donovan Casey (18th) and Jeter Downs hit back-to-back homers for a 4-2 advantage. Inland Empire (37-65, 11-22) got a run back in the eighth on Alexis Olmeda's RBI single and put the tying run aboard in the ninth but could not drive him home as Damien Nunez earned his second save for Rancho Cucamonga (61-40, 20-13). Leonardo Rivas had two hits and a walk for the Sixers in the loss including a double, Inland Empire's only extra-base hit.
