Chicago Wolves News Release
The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned right wing JOE MOTZKO (MAWTS-koh) to the Chicago Wolves after acquiring him from the Washington Capitals in exchange for center ALEXANDRE GIROUX. In addition, the Thrashers have recalled forwards BRYAN LITTLE and COLIN STUART and defenseman JOEL KWIATKOWSKI from the Wolves.
MOTZKO has appeared in eight games with the Capitals this season, registering National Hockey League career highs with two goals and four points in eight games. The 27-year-old forward has spent the majority of the season in the American Hockey League where he led the Hershey Bears with 21 goals and 48 points in 48 tilts.
Last year, MOTZKO recorded two penalty minutes in three postseason games with the Anaheim Ducks during their run to the 2007 Stanley Cup Championship. The Bemidji, Minn., native has appeared in 19 career regular-season NHL games during parts of five seasons with Washington (2007-08) and the Columbus Blue Jackets (2003 to 2007), collecting three goals and five points. He also has recorded 281 points (121G, 160A) and 257 penalty minutes in 327 career AHL games with the Syracuse Crunch (2002 to 2007), Portland Pirates (2006-07) and Hershey (2007-08).
The 26-year-old GIROUX registered 19 goals, 22 assists, 41 points and 47 penalty minutes in 44 games with the Wolves this season during his only campaign in a Chicago uniform.
LITTLE, the 12th overall pick in the 2006 National Hockey League Draft, started the season with the Thrashers, notching nine points (3G, 6A) and 16 penalty minutes in 29 games during his rookie campaign. STUART also made his NHL debut this year, notching three goals and five points in 17 games over two stints with the Thrashers, while KWIATKOWSKI has posted one assist in three games during one stint with Atlanta this season.
