Rats Call Up Albany Native Marc Cavosie

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that center Marc Cavosie has signed a Professional Tryout Agreement, after being called up from the Reading Royals of the ECHL.

Cavosie, 26, (pronounced cah-VOH-see) comes to the River Rats looking for his first AHL action since the 2005-06 season. The Albany, New York native began the 2007-08 season with the Columbia Inferno (ECHL), scoring six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 17 games played before being traded to Reading on November 28th; in 24 games for the Royals he has 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists). Drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Cavosie has played 252 career AHL games, scoring 99 points (26 goals, 73 assists), primarily with the Houston Aeros. He started his pro career with Houston in the 2002-03 season, helping the Aeros win the 2003 Calder Cup Championship. Cavosie played three full seasons with Houston, then the 2005-06 season with the Philadelphia Phantoms and then went to Europe last year to play for the Swedish team Rogle BK.

A standout at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute, Cavosie played three years of Division I hockey for the Engineers of the ECAC conference. During his junior season (2001-02) he was selected as the as the ECAC Conference Player of the Year, a First Team All-American and a Hobey Baker Finalist. Cavosie was a member of Team USA for the 2001 World Junior Championship and played his high school hockey for Albany Academy, where he put up 220 points in 106 career games.

The River Rats will begin another busy week of AHL action with a home game on Wednesday, February 27th against the Binghamton Senators at 7:00 pm at the Times Union Center. Albany also has home games against Worcester on Saturday and Philadelphia on Sunday.
