Derick Brassard Returned from Columbus, Derek MacKenzie and Aaron Rome Recalled

Syracuse, NY (February 26, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have returned center Derick Brassard. In addition, center Derek MacKenzie and defenseman Aaron Rome have been recalled by Columbus.

Brassard, 20, has appeared in 21 games with the Crunch this season, racking up 5 goals, 20 assists and 20 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 17 games with Columbus this year, collecting 1 goal, 1 assist and 6 penalty minutes. A native of Hull, Quebec, Brassard was drafted by Columbus in the first round, sixth overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

MacKenzie, 26, has appeared in all 59 games for the Crunch this season, registering 23 goals, 23 assists and 44 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 2 games with Columbus this season, notching 2 penalty minutes. A native of Sudbury, Ontario, MacKenzie was originally drafted by Atlanta in the fifth round, 128th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by Columbus as a free agent on July 11, 2007.

Rome, 24, has appeared in 55 combined games with the Crunch and Portland this season, tallying 5 goals, 24 assists and 157 penalty minutes. A native of Nesbitt, Manitoba, Rome was originally drafted by Los Angeles in the fourth round, 104th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Columbus along with Clay Wilson from Anaheim in exchange for Geoff Platt on November 15, 2007.

The Crunch's next game is Wednesday, February 27 as they travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to take on the Penguins. The Crunch return home on Friday, February 29 vs. Toronto at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
