Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - Brian Foster stopped 24 shots and Clay Plume scored one goal and set up another as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs extended their winning streak with a 3-1 triumph over the rival Texas Brahmas Wednesday night at the NyTex Sports Centre. The ¬ËBugs are now 14-4-0 and will carry a seven-game winning streak into their next game Friday in Tulsa.
Travis Clayton scored in the first period and Jeff Martens tallied the eventual game-winner in the second as the ¬ËBugs improved to 8-1 on the road and 2-0 against Texas this season. Justin Aikins and Steven Crampton each tallied assists as well to increase their respective point streaks to seven games apiece.
The ¬ËBugs found the back of the net just 1:29 into the contest as Travis Clayton skated over the blueline and fired a long wrister over Kevin Beech's glove hand to put Bossier-Shreveport on top 1-0. Jason Deitsch scored on a breakaway for the Brahmas mid-way through the first period to tie the game at one after 20 minutes.
Texas had three powerplay opportunities in the second period, but the Mudbugs managed to kill off all three and then take a 2-1 lead into the third. Although Joe Blaznek's pass was deflected into the air at 11:42, the puck fell right in the perfect spot for Jeff Martens to whack it past Beech and put the ¬ËBugs back in front heading into the third.
Plume provided the insurance goal on the powerplay in the final period with his second goal in as many games. Standing on the left boards, Plume sent a wrist shot past Beech from the point for his second goal of the season with less than seven minutes remaining to ice the 3-1 victory.
Brian Foster improved to 8-1-0 for the year with his fourth consecutive victory in goal, while Kevin Beech suffered the loss despite 22 saves. Bossier-Shreveport scored once in three powerplay chances and held Texas off the board on three opportunities.
The Mudbugs will be back in action Friday night in Tulsa for their second matchup of the year against the Oilers at 7:35 pm. Radio coverage will begin at 7:15 on AM 1130 KWKH and the game will also be shown live online on CHL-TV.
