Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Trailing by two after 20 minutes of play Wednesday night at Tim's Toyota Center, the Allen Americans tallied four unanswered including an empty net marker with 23 seconds remaining in the contest, snapping the Arizona Sundogs' three-game winning streak.
Losers of four straight at home, Arizona last won at Tim's Toyota Center on October 22, a 2-1 overtime victory over the Fort Wayne Komets.
Mark Kolanos and Luke Erickson staked the Sundogs to an early 2-0 lead capitalizing on each of Arizona's first-period power play opportunities but the Americans chipped away at the Sundogs' lead through the second and third periods before finally taking the lead with less than four minutes to play in the contest.
Kolanos opened scoring in the contest with his sixth goal of the season midway through the first period, lifting a Maxime Renaud rebound past Adrien LeMay from the side of the cage at the 12:24 mark.
Erickson stretched the Sundogs' lead to two with his fourth goal and seventh point in four games since joining the team, sending a shot through traffic and past LeMay with 2:56 to play in the opening period. Hood was credited with his fifth assist in three games while Renaud netted his second helper of the period on the play.
Bruce Graham pulled his club back to within one early in the second period with a power-play goal 3:01 into the middle frame, tucking the puck between netminder Levente Szuper and the far post off a David Stratham setup feed.
Stratham and Graham combined again just over six minutes into the third period to tie the score at two. Skating between the circles, Stratham calmed a Graham centering pass before snapping a shot past the glove of Szuper from the slot.
Dustin Donaghy gave Allen its first lead of the night on a late power play, knocking a rebound past Szuper for the eventual game-winner with 3:46 to play in regulation after a failed clearing attempt by Arizona.
Making his fourth consecutive start in net for Arizona, Szuper turned aside 34 of 37 shots in the setback.
Ranked last in the league coming into the contest, the Sundogs' power play unit finished 2-for-4 on the night while Allen converted twice on six man advantage chances.
The two teams face off again Friday at 7:05pm at Tim's Toyota Center. Tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
