Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (7-7-2) fell behind to the Laredo Bucks (6-8-1) in the second period and were never able to find the equalizer as Laredo escaped State Farm Arena with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night. Sean Muncy scored the lone Bees goal, his sixth of the season, while Pagliero made 27 save.
The first period was an entertaining back and forth affair with each team trading numerous quality opportunities but both netminders were up to the challenge with the Killer Bees Juliano Pagliero making 14 saves and Laredo's Pier Pelletier making 11.
Brett Clouthier had the best chance of the first period when he found the puck alone on his stick in front of the net. Clouthier drove to the far-side post but Pelletier was able to follow the puck and made the save.
In the second period Laredo finally broke the tie at the 10:07 mark with a power-play goal. Jeff Hazelwood ripped a shot from the point that snuck to the back of the net after Pagliero got a piece of it. Joe Scali picked up the assist.
The Bucks made it a two-goal lead at 18:36 when Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel scored his third goal of the season with Jeff Hazelwood picking up his second point of the game with the assist.
As the third period progressed the Bees continued to look for the equalizer but were unable to find it. Tomas Klempa had one of the best chances of the period coming in all alone but Pelletier made a good glove save to keep the shutout.
The Killer Bees were finally able to cut the lead in half at 14:04 of the third when Sean Muncy scored his sixth goal of the season off a deflection in front. Darcy Campbell sent a slapshot flying from the point and after the initial save by Pelletier was put in by Muncy with Klempa also getting an assist.
The Bucks would make it a two goal game at the 16:24 mark of the third when Reid Edmondson ripped a shot that beat Pagliero five-hole. The game would end with the Bucks enjoying a 3-1 victory.
