Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose (39-24-4-4) and Toronto Marlies (50-18-1-1) met at Bell MTS Place on Saturday afternoon to finish their season series. The visitors got off to a quick start with a power play goal from Miro Aaltonen 7:52 into the game. Just over two minutes later, Trevor Moore gave the Marlies a 2-0 edge, sneaking a short side shot past Michael Hutchinson. Manitoba got on the board at 11:55 when Francis Beauvillier created a turnover for Darren Kramer who immediately ripped the puck by Garret Sparks. The Moose tied the contest with 2:45 to go in the period courtesy of a Mason Appleton power play goal. The rookie left the puck at the blue line for Buddy Robinson and raced past the defenders, before taking a return feed and snapping a shot to the back of the net. The teams went to the intermission squared up at 2-2.

Manitoba claimed its first lead of the night four minutes into the second period. After a flurry of chances, C.J. Suess was finally able to edge the puck across the line to put the Moose on top. Toronto got back onto even terms with six minutes to go in the second when Calle Rosen's rocket from the point rattled off the post and banked back into the net off Hutchinson's skate. Chase De Leo nearly put the Moose back in front with a late chance, but Sparks came up with a glove save to keep the contest tied 3-3 through 40 minutes.

The Moose opened the period with a power play, but it would be Toronto who scored first in the frame. Ben Smith brought the puck to the Moose net shorthanded and a wild bounce ended up in the back of the goal 1:25 into the third. Manitoba didn't waste any time tying the game as Brody Sutter tipped home a Sami Niku point shot 1:48 later to get the Moose even again. Penalties continued to trouble the Moose as the Marlies capitalized on a power play 7:55 into the third with Jeremy Bracco firing a rebound to the twine. That goal would stand as the game winner as the Marlies claimed a 5-4 victory.
