SAINT JOHN, NB - The Saint John Flames (23-32-5-1), American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames, dropped a 4-2 decision to the Manitoba Moose (28-28-7-0) at Harbour Station Wednesday. The Canadian Division rivals were meeting for the seventh of eight scheduled meetings this season.

The Moose opened the scoring at 3:34 of the first on a goal by Nathan Smith and added to their lead with a short-handed marker by Chris Nielsen at 15:25 of the first frame, giving Manitoba a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Saint John countered in the second period with a pair of powerplay markers by Chuck Kobasew and DArcy Verot at 14:52 and 15:38 to tie the contest. The Flames skated off for the second intermission at 2-2.

The Third period saw Manitoba take the lead for good at 4:28 on a goal from Jaroslav Obsut. Mikko Jokela added the fourth moose goal, the final goal of the game, at 10:38.

Saint John was 2 for 5 with the man advantage while Manitoba was 1 for 4 with 1 short-handed goal. Manitoba now leads the season series between the two clubs with a record of 4-3-0.

Pirates forward Nathan Smith and defenceman Mikko Jokela were selected first and second star respectively while Flames rookie Matt Lombardi earned third star honours.

The Flames next action is at Harbour Station next week on Buck-a-Bag Popcorn night Wednesday, March 5 versus the Hamilton Bulldogs. Game time is 7:30 p.m..
