Canucks recall Reid

The Vancouver Canucks announced that centreman Brandon Reid has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose.

Reid, 21, is Manitoba's leading scorer with 42 points (14 goals, 28 assists) and 18 penalty minutes. The 5'9" forward has already set season career-highs for points, assists, penalty minutes and power play goals (6). He is the only Moose to play in all 63 games during the 2002-03 season and has registered eight multi-point games this season with the Moose. Reid holds a season team-high five game assist streak (Nov. 01-09/02) and set a career-high six game point streak (Oct.30-Nov.9/02).

He was a member of the Moose during the 2001-02 campaign. In his rookie pro season, Reid tallied 18 goals (three on the power play, one shorthanded) with 19 helpers for 37 points. He was tied for sixth spot in team scoring and added a +2 rating with six penalty minutes. In the 2002 AHL Playoffs, the speedy forward notched three assists in seven matches.

Prior to his pro career, Reid led Val d'Or to the 2001-02 QMJHL championship and was second on the team with 126 points (45g, 81a). His 42 points in the playoffs helped the Foreurs reach the Memorial Cup Final. He played in his second consecutive World Junior Hockey Championship and helped Canada win a bronze medal by recording four points in seven games. Reid won a bronze medal with Canada's National Junior Team at 2000 World Junior Hockey Championship and was the team's top scorer with nine points (5g, 4a). He played in the 2000 Memorial Cup Tournament with the Halifax Mooseheads and voted Halifax's Fan Favorite in 1999-2000 and in 1998-1999. The Kirkland, PQ native also was named to the 1999-2000 QMJHL 2nd All-Star Team, played for Team Quebec at 1998 Under 17 Tournament in Kitchener, ON and won gold with Team Quebec at an Under 16 Tournament in Europe in 1996.

Reid was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks with their fifth choice, 208th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. This will be his first stint with Vancouver.
