Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators announced today that they have received defenseman Radim Bicanek (RA-dihm Bih-CHAN-ihk) on loan from the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL). Bicanek had been playing with the Blue Jackets' American Hockey League affiliate in Syracuse.

The 28-year old, Czech Republic native was a 1993 second round draft pick (27th overall) of the Ottawa Senators. This season in Syracuse, Bicanek appeared in 56 games, scoring six goals and 17 assists for 23 points while picking up 111 minutes in penalties. His 24 points ranked him seventh on the Crunch scoring chart.

Bicanek will join the Sens for Friday morning's game-day skate before departing with the club for that night's game against the Albany River Rats at Pepsi Arena (7 p.m.). Bicanek posted offensive career highs across the board in 2000-01 with Syracuse (AHL). He finished second on the Crunch in goals (22) and points (65), and third in assists (43). Those totals were good for second, third, and fifth respectively among all AHL defensemen.

Bicanek's arrival marks the third veteran defenseman (Dean Melanson & Steve Bancroft) that the Sens have acquired after the start of the season.
