Sanford Mainers News Release
Just as things were going the right way for the Sanford Mainers they found themselves on the wrong end of three straight games going into Sunday night against Laconia.
However everything that went wrong before, went right this time around as they stomped on the Laconia Muskrats 16-2 in only five innings after the skies opened up and washed out the field.
It was a night that Muskrat pitching would want to forget as they combined for a total of eleven hits allowed and twelve walks in just five innings.
It started off slow when the Mainers scored once in the first on an RBI single by Cole Martin and once in the second when Troy Black scored on a passed ball.
It was the third inning where the Mainers' offense exploded. Nic Wilson led off with a home run to right field, good enough for his second on the season. He was followed later in the inning by an RBI single by Black, a sacrifice fly by Will Cooper and three runs walked in after the bases were loaded.
With the score at 8-0, the Mainers went to work again in the fourth scoring eight more times including a grand slam home run off the bat of Cooper and two more RBI singles by Black.
Evan Hill pitched all five innings for the Mainers, getting the complete game in the rain shortened affair. He had a no hitter through four innings before giving up three hits in the fifth that amounted to two runs when Joe Torres doubled down the left field line scoring Kaleb Barlow and Pete Leonello.
The Mainers end their three game slide and will head to Mystic on Monday to take on the Schooners. Nick Poore will be handed the ball with first pitch slated for 6:05pm.
