Montoya Leads Coyotes Past WhiteWings

Edinburg, TX - Eric Montoya struck out eight in eight innings to lead the Edinburg Coyotes (7-7) to a 6-4 victory over the Harlingen WhiteWings (6-9) tonight at Edinburg Stadium.

The WhiteWings got things going one out into the game against Eric Montoya (1-0). David Fowler singled and moved to second when Argelis Nunez reached on an error. They both moved up on a wild pitch and Brian Nichols hit a two-out two-run single to make it 2-0.

Eric Gonzalez and Amado German drew walks from Alex Gett (0-2) and scored on a two-out single by Nick Aranda to tie the game 2-2.

Gary Roche led off the fifth with a single and Daryl Jones followed with his fourth home run of the season to give the Coyotes a 4-2 lead.

The WhiteWings loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the eighth, but Montoya got out of it, only allowing one run to score on a David Cardona single to make it 4-3.

The Coyotes added two runs in the eighth against a wild Juan Jimenez, who walked Gonzalez and Jason Arrowood on eight pitches before giving up a two-run double to Aranda one batter later.

The WhiteWings completed the scoring in the ninth against Julio Castro when Bub Bergstrom led off with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch.

The WhiteWings return home to open up a three game series with the first place Amarillo Dillas tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Bobby Darling (0-0) will make his first start again Marcos Castillo (1-0).
