Broncos Get Solid Pitching in Victory Over Alexandria

Alexandria, LA-The Laredo Broncos picked up their 2nd straight series with a 5-3 victory over the Alexandria Aces on Thursday Night . The Broncos return home for a 6 game home stand starting on Friday night as they take on the Edinburg Coyotes. For more info call (956)-722-BASE (2273).

The Aces struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning. Albert Gonzalez led off with a double. Then Robert Matlock reached base on an error with Gonzalez staying at 2nd base. Selwyn Langaigne then hit an rbi single scoring Gonzalez. Patrick O'Sullivan then hit a fly ball to left field that was caught by Anthony Bennett who then threw home and cut down Robert Matlock at home. Then Catcher Luany Sanchez threw to 2nd base where the runner on first Langaigne was trying to take 2nd base. Langaigne was tagged out by Arnoldo Ponce to complete the unorthodox 7-2-6 triple play to keep the score at 1-0.

The Broncos would respond in the top of the 2nd inning. Edgard Clemente, Jose Salas, and Santiago singled to load the bases with no one out. Then after an Ivan Reyes strike out Matt Lawman hit into a fielder's choice to score Clemente and tying the game at 1.

Alexandria would get there lead back in their half of the 2nd. With one out Luis Guance singled and then stole 2nd base. Madison Edwards would then single him in making the score 2-1 after 2 innings.

Laredo would tie the game back up in the 3rd inning. Dwayne White and Arnoldo Ponce were walked. Then after an out Edgard Clemente singled in White from 2nd base to make the score 2-2.

The Broncos would grab their first lead of the game in the 4th inning. Matt Lawman led off with a double and scored on the following double by Anthony Bennett. Then Dwayne White would single into centerfield scoring Bennett from 2nd making the score 4-2.

The Aces would get one run back in the bottom of the 4th. Palmer Karr Jr. walked to begin the inning and then advance to 3rd on a single by Luis Guance. After a strikeout Bryan Sabatella hit an rbi groundout to cut Laredo's lead to 4-3.

Broncos starter Andy Schon recovered from a couple of shaky innings to pitch an effective game. He went 6 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out a season high 9 batters. His counterpart for the Aces Ramon Portillo was not bad either. Portillo went 7 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. He walked 4 and struck out 8.

Rusty Jones came in relief of Schon and had no trouble going through 1 1/3 inning. He struck out 1 and walked one keeping the 2 run lead going into the 9th inning. Benny Cepeda would come in for the save but with 2 outs and 2 runners on he left the game with an apparent arm injury. Nathan Crawford came in and picked up the 1 out save to give the Broncos the 5-3 Victory.

The Broncos scored 5 runs on 12 hits and committed 1 error. The Aces scored 3 runs on 7 hits and had 1 error.

The Broncos improve their record to 8-3 on the seaon . Laredo ended their 9 game road trip with a record of 5-4. The Broncos will be back at Veterans Field on Friday night at 7:30 as they host the Edinburg Coyotes.
