Coyotes Lose in Extra Innings

EDINBURG, TX- In a game that lasted for six hours and thirty minutes, The Edinburg Coyotes almost pulled off a dramatic come from behind victory Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. But the Harlingen WhiteWings played with poise to the end and narrowly escaped with a 13-12 win in Game 2 of a three-game series against the Coyotes. The game came down to very end and the WhiteWings (6-8) were able to claim victory off an RBI double from Carl Johnson that brought in Brian Nichols from third.

The Coyotes were able to stay in the game due to critical errors down the stretch of the game in which the WhiteWings committed eight in all. The Coyotes (6-7) were able to bring in 12 runs off of 12 hits for the game while the WhiteWings brought in 13 runs off of 19 hits. Dan Ziegler picked up his first win of the season for the WhiteWings while Caleb Balbuena picked up his second save for the team. Bryan Heaston got the loss for the Coyotes.

The Harlingen WhiteWings put up the first points of the game as David Fowler scored on a triple from Kevin Giffen. Griffen then scored on a pass ball to give them a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Coyotes answered back in the bottom of the first as Angelo Fermin reached on base with a walk. He then stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Gary Roche. Fermin scored on a pass ball to give the Coyotes their first run of the game. Coyotes took the lead after Eric Gonzalez hit a two-run homer over the left field fence to give his team a 3-2 lead.

The WhiteWings tied the game in the second inning after Bub Bergstrom doubled to right field bringing in Miguel Peguero from second. WhiteWings regained the lead in third after scoring three runs off of three hits to give them a 6-3 lead. Terry Roblez, Nichols and Argelis Nunez came in to score during the inning.

The Wings stretched the lead in the fourth inning when Nichols singled right bringing in Griffen from second and advanced Ryan Fox to third. Fox then scored when Nunez singled to left field pushing the lead to five.

The Coyotes managed to bring in run in the bottom of the fourth but the WhiteWings put up another run of their own in the fifth as well. In the seventh inning, WhiteWings put up three runs off of two hits stretching the lead to eight.

But the Coyotes began their rally in the bottom of the seventh as they racked in four runs off of only one hit but took advantage of three errors to bring the score to 12-8.

Coyotes battled back to tie the game after posting up four more runs in the bottom of the ninth. The Coyotes mustered up four hits in the innings.

The WhiteWings played stout defense and didn't allow a single run after the ninth.
