
Roadrunners drop series opener

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners suffered their third straight loss at the hands of the Amarillo Dillas with a score of 8-5 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Dillas got on the board against Tim Haines (9-5) in the top of the first with a two-run single by Carlos Figueroa that drove in Keanon Simon and Stantrel Smith giving Amarillo the early 2-0 lead.
Robert Matlock started the bottom of the first with a single to right and moved to second on an error by Dillas right fielder Terrance McClain. Osiel Flores followed with an RBI single to center field allowing Matlock to score from second but the throw to the plate allowed Flores to move up an extra base. After Vincent Blue drew a walk, Sergio Guerrero followed with an RBI single to center field that drove in Flores tying things at two. Hector Garanzuay then hit a two-run double allowing Blue and Guerrero to score giving the Roadrunners the 4-2 lead.
Former Roadrunner Angel Reyes hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth allowing McClain to score cutting Edinburg's lead 4-3.
Amarillo tied the game at four in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch from Haines that allowed Brian Bueno to touch home plate. McClain gave the Dillas the lead with an RBI single that allowed Simon to score making it 5-4.
Bryon Smith walked with two outs in the bottom of the sixth then moved to second after Flores singled to left. Eric Gonzalez followed with an infield single to load the bases for Blue who drew an RBI walk allowing Smith to score to tie the game at five.
In the top of the seventh the Dillas regained the lead after a throwing error allowed Bueno to score from third and a sacrifice fly by Trent Lockwood allowed Simon to touch home plate extending Amarillo's lead to 7-5.
The Dillas added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with an RBI single by Lockwood allowing Simon to score from second making it 8-5 in favor of Amarillo.
Andy Noonan pitched a scoreless ninth for sixth save of the season giving Amarillo the 8-5 victory.
The Roadrunners and Dillas will play the second game of this four-game series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Miguel Martinez (8-4) is expected to face Ralph Roberts (8-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
