
Colts' Offense Crossed up by WhiteWings Starter

San Angelo, Texas--- Rio Grande Valley starter David Cross silenced the San Angelo Colts (47-30) going eight innings of shutout ball allowing just three hits. The WhiteWings (37-40) took game one of the four game set atop the Colts with a score of 3-0.
Even though the scoring was sparse, the road team jumped to the lead in the first. Joaquin Rodriguez and Juan Melo singled with one out before Brian Nichols lashed a double down the right field line to score Rodriguez. And catapult the White Wings to the lead.
Rio Grande Valley added an insurance run in the second frame. Justin Holloway served a single to left and Mark Ramos took one for the team as he was hit by a pitch. A Casey Allen ground ball to third pushed runners to second and third when
Agustin Septimo drove a sacrifice fly to right field. The score was 2-0 White Wings.
One more crossed home plate for the road team in the sixth. Welinson Baez sprinted to first on a single and advanced to second on a stolen base. Rico Santana doubled to right-center, plating Baez, and pushing the edge to three runs.
The Colts threatened in the ninth by bringing the tying bat to home plate; but San Angelo was unable to come back. The Colts' two-game winning streak was snapped.
Nabbing the win was Wings starter David Cross (3-0). The right-hander went eight innings, scattering three hits and no runs. Julio Santana nailed down the save with his league leading 17th of the year. Suffering the loss was Jacob Ramos (3-2). The southpaw worked six innings giving up three runs. Brett Lester worked a scoreless seventh, Doug Brandt followed with a scoreless eighth and ninth inning of work.
San Angelo and Rio Grande Valley will continue their four game series tomorrow at Foster Field. Saturday's promotion will be Fireworks Extravaganza brought to you by 211 Texas and Bank of America. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm, gates will open at 6:05. The Kemps pre-game show will begin at 6:50 pm.
