Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

San Angelo - David Cross (3-0) held the San Angelo Colts' two-through- nine hitless in their first 18 at-bats to lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to a 3-0 win tonight at Foster Field.

Tonight's game between the Coastal Bend Thunder and the Laredo Broncos in Laredo was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the first inning, meaning the WhiteWings and Thunder are now tied for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Ronnie Gaines led off the bottom of the first with an infield-single for the Colts (47-30). John Anderson drew a four-pitch walk in the second and Gaines singled in the third. Cross retired 12-straight batters before Jason Landreth doubled in the seventh. Cross got Anderson and Nick Mahin to fly out to end the threat. The only other base runner was Gaines when he was hit by a pitch with two outs in the eighth. Cross struck out five in his outing.

Julio Santana pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his league-leading 17th save.

The WhiteWings (37-40) got on the board right away against Jacob Ramos (3-2). With one out, Joaquin Rodriguez and Juan Melo singled. Brian Nichols followed with an RBI-double to make it 1-0.

Justin Holloway led off the second with an infield-single, moved to second when Mark Ramos was hit by a pitch and to third when Casey Allen laid down a sacrifice bunt. Agustin Septimo followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

With one out in the top of the sixth, Welinson Baez singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Rico Santana to make it 3-0.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 at Foster Field. Right-hander Jose Cordero (1-1) is expected to face right-hander Chandler Barnard (9-4).
