Triple play leads Broncos to 5-3 win

Alexandria, La. - May 29, 2008 - The Laredo Broncos, in a 5-3 win, turned a triple play in the first inning of Thursday night's game at Bringhurst Field against the Alexandria Aces. With nobody out in the first, and runners at first and third, Patrick O'Sullivan hit a fly ball to left field. Anthony Bennett made the catch and threw out Robert Matlock at the plate, who was trying to score on the sacrifice fly. Selwyn Langaigne was then thrown out at second base trying to advance on the play, resulting in a triple play. With the score tied 2-2 in the fourth, Matt Lawman and Anthony Bennett hit back-to-back doubles to give the Broncos a one-run lead. Dwayne White followed with an RBI-single to put the Broncos up by two. In the ninth, the Aces threatened to send the game into extra innings. Albert Gonzalez represented the winning run when he struck out with runners at first and second to end the game. Broncos starter Andy Schon got the win by pitching 6.2 innings and striking out nine. The Aces travel to San Angelo to play the Colts for a three-game series starting Friday. The Aces will throw newcomer Wayne Hedden against the Colts Luke Massetti. Game time is 7:05 PM.
