Montgomery Leads River Otters To 4-3 Win Against Flint

January 19, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

Jim Montgomery's dazzling third period goal gave the River Otters a 4-3 win Wednesday night in Flint, snapping the team's seven-game winless streak.

The River Otters struck first on a broken play in front of the Generals net. Barrie Moore found a loose puck and rifled a top-shelf wrister to give his squad the early lead. Flint tied the game less than two minutes later, as John DiPace deflected a Mike Kinnie pass behind Jason Tapp.

Both teams scored in the middle period, but it was the Generals that scored first. Defenseman Brent Currie ripped a shot from the left point, and Rob Valicevic deflected it behind Tapp for his 21st goal of the season. The River Otters tied the game on an incredible effort from Glenn Detulleo. The diminutive center speeded the puck up the right wing, stick-handled around a Generals defenseman, and beat Generals goalie Dan McIntyre with a terrific backhand move.

Missouri got the first goal in the third period when Justin Quenneville rammed home the rebound of a Montgomery shot. The Generals tied the game five minutes later, as Kinnie scored his 22nd goal of the year. But a mere 25 seconds after that goal, Montgomery went end-to-end and buried a top-shelf backhander to give his squad the team for good. Jason Tapp made 16 saves for the victory, while McIntyre made 20 saves in defeat.

The Otters are off until Friday, when they will invade Fort Wayne to take on the Komets. The puck drops at 7:00 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the River Otters B2 Webcast, which can be found at the River Otters website!
