TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The 13th of 17 meetings and the sixth of eight in Richmond. The âDogs are 6-6 vs. the Jackals, 3-2 at home. Jonathan Gagnon has 11 points vs. the Jackals. Jason Sessa has 22 vs. Richmond. The Jackals have out-scored the âDogs by 13 on special teams. The âDogs and Jackals are tied for third in the Eastern Division. Richmond has two games in hand.
LAST ACTION: The âDogs lost to Adirondack 1-0 in an overtime shootout Saturday at the Coliseum. Nathan Grobins made 23 saves in regulation. Hugo Belanger scored twice in the 11 round shootout for the Frostbite. The Jackals edged Ft. Wayne 4-3 in a shootout Sunday at Ft. Wayne. Rookie backup goalie Kevin Kurk backstopped the Jackals to the win. Carl Drakensjo scored two goals.
'DOG BITES: The âDogs have allowed only seven goals in their last four games. Richmond and Adirondack played a 0-0 regulation game Saturday with no penalties called on either team. This was the first penalty free game in 'Dogs history. It was Richmond's thrid 0-0 regulation game in club history and their second in a week. It was the 'Dogs first 1-0 shootout loss. The 11 round shootout Saturday was the 'Dogs second longest (they had a 13 round shootout vs. Ft. Wayne in February last season). The 'Dogs are 2-1-1 on a seven game homestand. Richmond is 6-0 this season when held to under 20 shots on goal. Nathan Grobins has two regulation shutouts in three starts with Richmond. Richmond has played four straight games decided by one goal. The 'Dogs took only their second regulation one goal loss of the season Friday vs. Adirondack. Brent Belecki made his 'Dogs debut Friday. Trevor Senn returned from IR Friday. The 'Dogs are now carrying three goalies and eight veterans (one more than the UHL game night lineup limit of seven). David Hymovitz and Mark Turner are tied for 14th in the league in scoring. Trevor Senn is third in penalty minutes. Kyle Sheen leads UHL rookies in penalty minutes and is second among rookies in game winning goals.
JACKALS NOTES: Elmira wraps up a six game road trip tonight. The Jackals are 1-3-1 on the trip. Greg Koehler is fifth in the league in scoring. Jason Sessa is 11th. Koehler and Sessa are tied for fourth in goals. 19 of the Jackals 40 power play goals this season have come against Richmond.
NEXT UP: The âDogs are home Friday vs. Motor City and again Saturday vs. Kalamazoo. NASCAR Rookie of the Year driver Kasey Kahne will be on hand Saturday.
